SolarPower Europe forecasts growth of 10% to 15% per year over three years

After three years of 40% annual growth, PV installations in Europe may no longer be growing rapidly. SolarPower Europe is forecasting growth of 11% for 2024, because energy prices have fallen and interest rates on projects are rising in an inflationary environment.

SolarPower Europe denounces

delays in connecting to the grid of more than four years, the slowness of authorisations, commercial barriers that slow down deployment, and difficulties in relocating industrial production.

The organisation estimates that installations in Europe will reach 62 GW in 2024 (+11%), 73.8 GW in 2025 (+19%) and 84.2 GW in 2026 (+14%).

It recommends policy changes to support the expansion of solar energy in Europe: Lowering the cost of capital for green investments, greater grid flexibility, greater labour abundance, improved permitting processes and the development of sustainable and "diversified" solar supply chains.

Editor's note The low forecasts for the next three years are certainly realistic and could bring some good news.

They are realistic because after three years of 40% annual growth, we need to organise the network, the procedures and find the workforce. We have to work out the life we want to have.
