Battery-free irrigation system in Spain
Acciona is completing the construction of an irrigation system powered by battery-free photovoltaic panels in north-east Spain. The 1.5 MW plant will power an irrigation system covering 3,400 hectares.
in north-east Spain, serving 150 irrigators. The company will supply water to local farmers under a 26-year contract.
This Acciona project uses two major innovations. The first is the technology used to stabilise the injection of energy into the system. The second uses calculations of the energy requirements of photovoltaic irrigation systems to solve the problem of intermittent power supply without batteries. The company has integrated them into existing irrigation systems using innovative approaches to maximise the use of solar energy.
