A reflective membrane to enhance the back of a panel

Germany's Solmax has developed a reflective membrane that could increase the efficiency of a bifacial plant by 5% to 20% depending on its configuration and reduce the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) by 2% to 5%.

The new product is a reflective geomembrane made from polyethylene resins. It is coated with a thin layer of white polyethylene that reflects ultraviolet (UV) light. According to the manufacturer, the material is inert and does not cause any chemical reaction with the soil.

Editor's note: This announcement was to be expected as the manufacturers had focused on the production of the back side, to advertise the two-sided panels.

We would need an indication of the price of the membrane. It would have to be less than the increase in efficiency from the albedo reflection.
