Transparent windows using organic photovoltaic materials

American scientists have produced transparent panels using organic photovoltaic materials.

They used two different materials

for two different types of sunglasses. One is based on phthalocyanine, the other on heptamethine. Both panels offer better visible light transmission than conventional semi-transparent building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) panels, and selective absorption of near-infrared (NIR) radiation.

These panels have an efficiency of 10% and 11%, and a lifespan of twenty years.

Editor's note One project after another is leading to photovoltaic windows. This is particularly important because it would increase the surface area of buildings that could be used to produce energy. The development of such a product would represent a radical change in the location of energy production.

It should be noted that this is the first time, to our knowledge, that a rate of return for this type of glazing has been indicated.
