Minor fire at a silicon producer

Silicon producer East Hope halts production due to fire

in its factory in the Zhundong economic and technological development zone, in the Chinese region of Xinjiang. This was on 17 June.

Bernreuter Research believes that this will not cause any major disruption to the market, because East Hope was already planning regular maintenance. However, there has been an increase in the price of silicon over the past week. The real impact should be a reduction in production of around 1,500 tonnes. This compares with a drop of 21,000 tonnes in 2020, when three different plant accidents occurred.

Last week, silicon prices peaked at 280 RMB ($41.78)/kg in China.
