US law banning forced labour for Uighurs comes into force
The US law banning forced labour for Uighurs came into force on 21 June. It stipulates that any article "wholly or partly" manufactured in the Xinjiang region of China
is a product of the alleged labour camps of ethnic minorities in the region, which means that it is banned from entering the United States.
This law could have enormous repercussions for the US solar industry
The US Department of Homeland Security has published a list of dozens of companies whose products are allegedly manufactured using forced labour and are banned from entering the United States. These include Hoshine products and the Xinjiang-based subsidiaries of silicon manufacturers Daqo, East Hope and GCL.
Companies in other Chinese regions are wondering how rigorously this law will be applied, and what proof will be required to pass US controls.
This high standard will require importers not only to exercise due diligence in assessing their supply chain, but also to respond fully and substantively to US requests for information on imports.
