Strong growth in PV installations in Poland

In Poland, regulatory changes and rising electricity prices have led to a "spectacular success" for the country's photovoltaic industry in 2021: 3.7 GW were installed last year, bringing installed capacity to 7.6 GW. At the end of May, it reached

10 GW and 12 GW are expected to be operational by the end of 2022. At this rate, 20 GW should be installed by the end of 2025.

Regulatory changes and rising electricity prices have led to "spectacular success" for the Polish photovoltaic industry in 2021. This is the result of a deliberate government policy to ensure energy security and a stable energy supply for end users.

Prosumers (producer-consumers) account for 50% of the market.

The sectoral agreement, approved in December, aims to build the photovoltaic industry's value chain, with particular emphasis on maximising the Polish contribution to increasing local content. The country is facing under-investment in electricity grids, rising prices for raw materials for photovoltaic panels, notably aluminium and silicon, and supply chain disruptions that are hampering the availability of panels or inverters and causing price rises. Continued success will depend on domestic investment in the equipment manufacturing industry and technological innovation.
