German plans to buy residential solar energy

German renewable energy producer Trianel plans to buy solar energy from residential photovoltaic systems through mini power purchase agreements, starting in the second quarter.

It will then sell the electricity on the energy futures market. This will enable customers to obtain prices higher than the minimum feed-in tariff for photovoltaic roofs. The German company is targeting systems that have been excluded from the renewable energy incentive programme.

It will enter into mini-FITs with customers for a period of three or six months.

Editor's note This information comes as something of a surprise! It is similar to a virtual power plant, except that the producer collects the energy and sells it on the market, offering an opportunity for PV system owners to sell their energy. It is an intermediary (a broker) on a market who earns the difference between its purchase price and its sale price.
