Is the yield and LCOE better with N-type panels than with P-type panels?

JinkoSolar asked TÜV Nord to compare its N-type panels with their P-type counterparts (brand not specified). The study shows that the N-type panel offers an average cost of

lower than the P-type panel (the LCOE is 0.29 RMB/kWh lower in China and 0.48 $/kWh lower in Spain). The internal rate of return is better in two test installations in China and Spain.

TÜV Nord reported that N-type products had an energy production capacity in kW that was 5.3% higher than that of the P-type panel.

The industry is stepping up its investment in N-type panels. JinkoSolar recently commissioned an 8 GW N-type panel assembly plant in China and expects to have 16 GW of N-type cell capacity by the end of the quarter.

Editor's note These studies, commissioned from renowned organisations, are always flawed by the unspecified comparison product. The bad tongues would say that it was probably selected because it is known to be one of the least good. The lack of information undermines the credibility of the comparison.
