The British PV Crystalox finally encounters a favourable economic climate in 2016

British PV Crystalox is closing its wafer production plant in Japan despite the limited recovery in prices due to a shortage of wafers. The company was unable to take full advantage of these market conditions due to long-term supply contracts. The company is continuing production in Germany and hopes to be able to renegotiate the current contracts.

In 2015, the company benefited from a drop in the price of silicon and an increase in the price of wafers. This favourable situation comes after years of losses. The arrival in production of new global silicon production capacity is expected to push the price of silicon further down in 2016. The contract to supply silicon at a high price expired in December 2015, freeing the company from a serious charge.
