Arcelor Mittal is not interested in hydrogen at the moment

Arcelor Mittal believes that green hydrogen will require significant investment and time for its price to pass

"well below $1/kg". This is the main obstacle to its development in the steel sector despite its "potential". It would take ten or twenty years to achieve significant savings. Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) seems to be a more feasible option, hence a project in Brazil and another in Belgium. For example, the steelmaker is considering direct electrolysis for steel production, instead of green hydrogen.
