Northvolt acquires US start-up Cuberg
The Swedish company Northvolt is acquiring the young American company Cuberg, which specialises in lithium-metal batteries. The latter has developed a battery
with an energy density of more than 1 kWh per litre. In June 2020, the American NREL tested a 5 amp-hour battery from Cuberg: it achieved a specific energy of 369 Wh/kg and a power of 2,000 W/kg. By joining forces with Northvolt, the American company hopes to be able to market its product on a large scale
Cuberg has replaced the graphite in the anode with a lighter metal, and has developed a new electrolyte, which makes it possible to reduce the size of the batteries (see photo)
