Floating mounting structures for photovoltaics

The Spanish company Isigenere has developed floating mounting structures for photovoltaics

from virgin high density polyethylene. He says his manufacturing process, which involves plastic injection, produces about 1 MW every five days. The plastic components have a minimum thickness of 3 mm.

The 240 kg mounting structures offer minimum wind resistance thanks to an aerodynamic design and a five-degree tilt of the solar panel. They are capable of withstanding winds of up to 180 km/h and 1 metre waves, and operate between -20° C and +60° Celsius.

The manufacturer has an annual production capacity of 80 MW and wants to double this figure in four months.
