Tesla has applied for a licence to supply green electricity in the UK

Tesla has just applied for a licence to supply green electricity in the UK. It will use storage and self-consumption.

The company already sells self-consumption and storage solutions to individuals, businesses and local authorities. To market energy,

Tesla would use the Autobidder platform. This software allows auto-consumers to track the electricity production of their solar panels. But it goes much further, it also analyses the demand for electricity on the network and observes the course of energy tariffs. Armed with all this data, the producer can choose to consume the stored surplus or sell it via an auction system.

At present, Autobidder is already in operation in Australia at the Hornsdale storage site. This high-capacity lithium-ion battery, which has been the largest in the world, stores the energy produced by the region's solar and wind farms and then sells it via Autobidder when the market is most favourable.

NDLR Starting from the electric car, his main activity, the boss of Tesla was obliged to develop a battery activity for his cars and for energy storage. Having the batteries, all he has to do is fill them up and then redistribute the energy they contain. He bought SolarCity, which installed panels and launched solar tiles (an activity that doesn't seem to be working well). The evolution is logical.

André Joffre recalls his text of October 2017, in which he stressed that Elon Musk now has the masterly assets of the game. He vertically integrated the three dimensions of the energy question: production, storage and mobility, which are more than ever interdependent with the emergence of intermittent competitive energies.

Tomorrow, Engie or EDF could in turn sell cars or rent them. But there will be no new concessions granted to such and such an operator, because these new services will be directly marketed on the web. In turn, these incumbent operators will have to integrate mobility by using clean and competitive electricity production.

With its falling price, photovoltaic will be systematically integrated into buildings if their promoters want to meet their customers' requirements. Tomorrow, all uses will be satisfied with solar power, a renewable and decarbonated source. Tomorrow, thanks to the digital directory, it will be possible to charge your electric vehicle with solar energy wherever it is. There will be a virtual storage place that will compare offers and demands. The person in charge will be responsible for managing this virtual battery and will set the access rights for it. For energy operators, existing or future, this is potentially a considerable source of income. And that is why there are already fundraising efforts to implement this new market throughout Europe.

What is at stake is no longer the threshold for tenders or taxes on self-consumption. It is to know the solutions proposed by Google or Amazon. It is these companies that will offer solutions.

NDLR This is what makes A. Joffre that the essential is digital and no longer solar energy, which is only part of a whole.
