What is the effect of containment on U.S. residential installation companies?

In recent weeks (the article was published on May 5), the residential solar industry in the US has experienced a decline in demand, made layoffs, and transferred as much work online as possible. Its effect will be seen in the first quarter accounts, although

the containment only took place in March.

Tesla has already published poor figures, with a 26% decline in activity in the first quarter of the comparable period of 2019. It is difficult to extrapolate, as Tesla has been experimenting with different sales techniques over the past year.

These quarterly accounts should reflect the continued construction of facilities, even if most of the country remains at a standstill, as well as the effectiveness of attempts to revive sales. Sunrun and SunPower have been experimenting with more aggressive sales techniques.

So far, residential solar seems to be the sector most severely affected by coronavirus blockages, compared to large-scale plants which are less directly affected. Redundancies are concentrated among residential installers.

Most companies are preparing for a difficult remainder of the year and a slow start to 2021.
