Are American solar workers indispensable to the life of the United States?

The epidemic is emptying workplaces, but the solar industry (SEIA) argues that it should be exempt from mandatory shutdowns. It relies on emergency orders

of certain states such as California. This state has called on all residents to stay in their homes unless they are doing essential work.

Workers on large power plants could more easily spread out over a large work area, while installers on residential rooftops have less opportunity to move away.

The efforts of the solar industry can be greeted with skepticism. In most cases, "essential" activities include health care, emergency response and public transportation workers. Yet this is a strategy that many companies and entire sectors of the economy are currently pursuing. While the Trump administration is considering possible corporate bailouts in the oil and airline sectors, the solar industry is also hoping to successfully lobby for sectoral relief.
