Engie sold 1.3 GW of clean energy to businesses in 2019, 70% more than the second most active company. More than 1 GW of these contracts were signed in the United States, following the acquisition of developer Infinity Renewables in February 2018. Engie now has a pipeline of over 5.3 GW of clean energy projects in the US.

Other significant developers are 7X Energy (No. 2, with 767 MW), Apex Clean Energy (No. 3, with 652 MW) and Longroad Energy (No. 4, with 650 MW).

Contracts for the supply of renewable energy to businesses are a serious new source of revenue for developers. Although the contracts are generally shorter in duration than those concluded by traditional power companies, many companies are stepping up their purchases of clean energy to meet their sustainability goals. Conversely, many US utilities are currently low purchasers because they have already met their clean energy quotas. They are no longer as motivated a customer base as they used to be.

BloombergNEF of 25 February

Editor's note This article draws attention to the potential that energy supply contracts have for developers. At the same time, this ranking indicates that contract signatures have been rather low across the US and the rest of the world. It has the advantage of providing an order of magnitude.
