Development of an entirely inorganic solar cell

Hong Kong City University reports that its researchers have developed an entirely inorganic, more stable solar cell with an efficiency of 16.1%. This is the

the most effective reverse perovskite developed to date.

The new cell was created with a simple molecular passivation: a small "Lewis base" molecule passively passivates the inorganic perovskite film. A "Lewis base" is an electron pair donor that can offer a pair of electrons without a bond. The chosen version - 6TIC-4F - triggered nucleation of the perovskite precursor, leading to the formation of larger grains and a denser film.
