Prices in the sector on 11 December

Presentation of EnergyTrend : The decline in multi-crystalline is continuing. Wafer manufacturers are pushing down the price of multicrystalline silicon, as they too are under downward pressure.

from cell and panel producers

On the other hand, the price of monocrystalline products remained stable. Some even envisage a rebound in prices in the monocrystalline sector linked to an upturn in demand.

Introduction to PV InfoLink Multi-crystalline wafers reach a new low in price

Silicon :

According to EnergyTrend The pressure of buyers of multicrystalline wafers on silicon producers to lower their prices means that the latter must either sell at a loss or suspend production. Polysilicon is 53 - 55 RMB/kg, with an average price of 54 RMB/kg.

Monosilicon manufacturers are also under pressure to lower their prices both on the Chinese market and abroad. The price of mono-grade silicon is currently between 69 and 75 RMB / kg. The average price remains unchanged at 72 RMB / kg. For abroad, the price is between 8.55 and 9.18 $ / kg with an average price of 8.80 $ / kg.

According to PV InfoLink The price of multicrystalline silicon has plunged to 52 - 57 RMB / kg with an average price of 53 RMB / kg. There have been very few transactions because downstream production capacity is little used. Buyers are turning to poor quality silicon as manufacturers face high production costs due to low production rates. Demand is stagnant. Silicon producers avoid building up stocks. This has driven the price of silicon for multicrystalline wafers to an all-time low. Some Tier 2 multicrystalline silicon producers have shut down production to maintain their furnaces.

Monocrystalline silicon fell by 1 RMB, returning between 72 and 75 RMB per kg. This was reflected in foreign prices, which dropped to $8.40/kg for mono and $6.70/kg for multi.

Platelets :

According to EnergyTrend : The trend remains the same as last week: multicrystalline wafers are falling; their price on foreign markets is between 0.201 and 0.205 $ /piece. On the Chinese market, the price of the 156.75 mm format is 1.68 - 1.72 RMB / pc.

Monocrystalline wafers remain stable, despite sometimes some shortages that have affected small and medium manufacturers. If this continues, itprices will rise again next week as the suspension of production could continue until the end of the year. For overseas, the price of 156.75 mm sizes remains unchanged at $0.395 - $0.421 / pc. Large sizes (158.75 mm) remain unchanged at $0.425 - $0.460 / pc. The price of wafers of 161.75 mm and larger remains unchanged at $0.470 / pc. In the Chinese market, 156.75 mm mono-Si wafers remain unchanged at 2.98 - 3.15 RMB / pc. The price of large wafers (158.75 mm) remains unchanged at 3.30 - 3.37 RMB / pc.

According to PV InfoLink The weak demand for multi-crystalline, the price of wafers fell between 1.59 and 1.64 RMB each with an average of 1.62 RMB. Tier 1 multi-crystalline wafer manufacturers working with integrated producers have some demand for their high yield multi-crystalline wafers. These are exceptions because smaller silicon and wafer producers are working at a loss. Producers are turning to medium efficiency products, moving away from traditional multi-Si products. The crisis is severe and wafers are often sold at prices that defy all competition on the market.

The prices of monosilicon wafers have varied little, remaining between 2.95 and 3.06 RMB each due to sustained demand. There is an increasing price demand for large mono-Si wafers. All manufacturers are increasing their production volume of G1 wafers (158.75 mm) whose market price was 3.28 to 3.33 RMB / piece and which are expected to become more important next year.

cells :

According to EnergyTrend : The orientation is the same as that of platelets: the price of multicrystalline cells is decreasing. The market for multi-Si cells is still in crisis. The overall stock level was on the rise. There was little trade at the current market price. The price of multisilicon abroad is currently between $0.081 and $0.118 / W. The average price remains unchanged at $0.093 / W.

Demand for monocrystalline is relatively strong. The capacity of leading manufacturers has almost reached its maximum. As a result, prices were relatively stable. The price of general mono-Si cells remains unchanged at $0.102 - $0.107 / W. The price range for high-efficiency mono-Si cells remains unchanged at $0.112 - $0.133 / W. The price range for higher efficiency mono-Si cells (> 21.7%) remains unchanged at $0.115 - $0.168 / W.

According to PV InfoLink : As cell prices have reached break-even for many producers, multi-Si cell prices have suffered a smaller decline in China, reaching 2.8 to 2.85 RMB / piece or 0.61 RMB / W this week. The price of multi-Si cells in the coming weeks depends on the decline in polysilicon and wafer prices.

Power plant construction work is accelerating to be completed before December 31 in China and abroad. Integrated manufacturers are recording an increase in demand for mono-Si. As Western demand is expected to weaken due to the winter, there are questions as to whether the high popularity of mono PERC cells will continue as new solar capacity in China is expected to be installed within the next two months.

the panels :

According to EnergyTrend The general trend is confirmed, with a mixed development of overseas markets; the decline continues on multisilicon prices. The power of (270 - 275 W) is currently between 0.201 and 0.205 $ / W. The average price is lowered to $0.203 / W. The price range for high-efficiency multi-Si (280 - 285 W) is $0.208 - $0.225 / W. The average price is lowered to $0.213 / W. In the Chinese market, the multi-crystalline (270 W - 275 W) is 1.55 - 1.68 RMB / W. The average price is lowered to 1.65 RMB / W. The price revision range of high efficiency multi-Si (280 - 285 W) is 1.67 - 1.72 RMB / W. The average price is lowered to 1.70 RMB / W.

The price of mono-Si (290 - 295 W) is 0.215 - 0.245 RMB / W. The average price is increased to $0.230 / W. The price revision range for high efficiency mono-Si (300-310 W) is 0.295 - 0.320 $ / W. The average price remains unchanged at $0.315 / W. The price revision range for the higher efficiency mono-Si (> 310W) is from $0.233 to $0.395 / W. The average price increases to $0.280 / W.

According to PV InfoLink : Module prices have recently stabilised thanks to a rush to install at the end of the year. Based on an analysis of solar projects awarded at recent auctions in China, prices for multi-Si modules have mostly been in the range of RMB 1.58 - 1.65 / W, while prices for mono PERC modules have fluctuated between RMB 1.67 - 1.78 / W.

In 2020The dominance of 400W high efficiency panels in the market will put great pressure on panel manufacturers to adopt 158.75mm square wafers, half-cut cell layout, multi-bar (MBB) and efficiency enhancing materials to meet market needs. As a result, panel shipment volumes coupled with the half-cut + MBB cell design are expected to increase on a quarterly basis next year.
