A less dynamic year-end than previously expected

Global demand for panels fell slightly in the third quarter. However, global demand is expected to exceed 120 GW in 2019 and to be around 125 GW (+18% over 2018 which had reached 108 GW).

Chinese manufacturers

sought to offset through exports the decline in domestic demand that occurred after the Chinese authorities' decision of 31 May 2018: Chinese exports almost doubled between January to May 2018 and January-May 2019, reaching 28.5 GW (compared with 14.7 GW). It should be noted that these exports reached 26.3 GW between June and December 2018, i.e. over seven months). Sales in Europe rose sharply in the 2nd half of 2018 due to the abolition of the minimum import price.

All regions are increasing their demand. There will be 21 markets of more than one gigawatt in 2019 (compared with 16 in 2018).

EnergyTrend of 17 August

Editor's note: EnergyTrend's forecast for the second half of 2019 is much less optimistic than it was a few months ago. The end of the year will barely be better than last year.
