To cope with the heavy snowfalls (up to 2 or 3 metres) in Japan and to adapt to the lack of land, the Japanese subsidiary of the German company Luxor created an 8 kW system in the car park of a factory in the province of Niigata. The panels are positioned vertically to capture the reflectivity of the snow.

German scientists at ZSW have built a 9 square centimetre perovskite-CIGS tandem panel, with organometallic perovskites for the top panel. It has an efficiency of 21.1%. With smaller laboratory cells, ZSW has already achieved an efficiency of 26.6% for this combination of materials.

Germans have found a new way to colour colour thin-film panelsso that they can be integrated into buildings. The proposed technique involves cutting the semi-finished elements into the desired shapes, then applying a conductive metal oxide (OMO) electrode in the required colour.
