A new panel factory project in France (in Occitania)
A project to build a 2 GW panel production plant is being considered in the southern region of Occitanie (near Tarbes-Lourdes Pyrenees airport). The Occitanie development agency is looking for investors over the next two years.
This project would be facilitated by the presence of two solar glass suppliers and six extruded aluminium manufacturers in the region. The aim is to create a complete production ecosystem along the entire value chain

Editor's note One can only welcome a panel construction project in France, especially if it is 2 GW in size. The promoters want to surround this project with the establishment of production units for complementary components. Ideally, this should also include cells and wafers, as otherwise there is a dependence on purchases that weakens the assembler.
Whatever the choice, the constitution of a photovoltaic cluster is useful. Let's hope that this project is moved near one of the three or four current panel production centres to stimulate the existing ones, add dynamism and constitute a specialised centre. Scattering is never a good policy.
