We should be able to increase the efficiency of a cell to 40%!

The German institute HZB has developed a silicon heterojunction cell with a crystalline layer

which uses an effect known as singlet fission to increase efficiency. The team has created a device demonstrating that the principle works, and estimates that an efficiency of 40% of the cell could be achieved after further experimentation.
