Sunpower has just been exempted from customs duties

Sunpower has just been exempted from customs duties on the import of its cells and panels produced abroad (Mexico and Asia). Its CEO says

that the company can now develop its next solar technology. This decision by the US Administration does not call into question the acquisition of the Solarworld Americas plant by the end of the quarter.

Sunpower makes a lot of money by no longer paying customs duties. The company has paid up to $2 million per week. It will stop paying duties as of September 19. The U.S. Department of Commerce's decisions seem tailor-made for Sunpower.
