Solar energy at 10% of demand in five American states
Solar provides more than 10% of electricity in five American states (California, Hawaii, Nevada, Vermont and Massachusetts), and
2.4% of US energy production in the first half of the year. Solar plus wind power account for just under 10% of requirements.
Coal production fell by 6% year-on-year. Nearly 10 GW of coal-fired power plants were withdrawn in the first six months of 2018, and 17 GW have been taken out of service in the past 12 months.
