Panasonic launches cell and panel production in the USA
Panasonic has invested $260 million in the Buffalo plant near New York (still called giga-plant 2; the No. 1 is the Nevada plant that builds batteries). Production of HIT solar cells and panels has just begun. The manufacture of cells
in Buffalo is one of the few examples of solar cell production in the USA. The two main competitors (SunPower and LG) manufacture their cells abroad, which could be an inconvenience if tariffs were introduced.
