The difference in the call to the network between midday and the evening is becoming more pronounced every year.
In 2013, the Californian grid operator CAISO predicted that solar energy would change California's energy balance. It translated this into what has been called the "duck curve": a deep drop in demand in the middle of the day due to the sun's radiation; a sharp rise at the end of the day; and an increase in demand at the end of the day.
