The record conversion rate of 26.3% was achieved by the Japanese Kaneka and the Japanese NEDO on a classic 148 cm wide cell. The technology used is heterojunction technology, which combines several types of semiconductors that reduce the defects that decrease the conversion efficiency,

or which combine materials that convert light energy of different wavelengths.

This cell uses contact technology through the back of the cell, allowing the front side to receive all the light. Further development and cost reduction are still to be achieved.
