Photovoltaics set a new price record at $0.029/kWh in Chile

The average price of the 12.4 terawatt-hours allocated to Chile at the last auction was $0.04759 per kWh, 40% lower than the price resulting from the October 2015 auction. Wind power was the big winner in terms of volume (40% of the total), while photovoltaics set a new price record at $0.029/kWh. The Chilean minister was pleased that the plants, which are due to be commissioned by 2021, will allow electricity prices to fall by 20%, and that the energy sector will become the nation's main driving force.
