92 GW exported to Europe in ten months, with a view to installing 60 GW by 2023

Exports fell by 17% over September and rose by 40% over October 2022. Cumulative exports for the first ten months reached 174 GW, up 31% on 2022.

Exports to Europe

In October alone, exports to Europe totalled 6.2 GW, down 18% on September and 10% on the previous year. Over the first ten months of the year, Chinese exports totalled 92 GW of panels, 23% more than last year and 53% of Chinese exports in 2023. This decrease is the result of the large shipments in the first half of the year.

In mid-November, the spot price for European panels was between €0.11 and €0.15/W, almost at the same level as in October, indicating a slowdown in the decline in prices and a gradual easing of panel stock problems.

Demand for panels did not fall drastically until the run-up to the winter holidays. As a result, there could be a reduction in stocks between now and the end of the year.

In Asia-Pacific, cumulative imports over ten months reached 39 GW. This represents a cumulative increase of 43% in one year.

In the Americas, cumulative imports over ten months reached 24 GW, an increase of 13% over last year.

In the Middle East, imports reach 12 GW (+69% over 2022).

Editor's note Clearly, Chinese manufacturers intend to continue flooding the European market with their panels. Admittedly, the pace has slowed compared with the first half of the year, but exports at the end of October 2023 still stood at 92 GW, while installations in Europe for the twelve months to 2023 are estimated at around 60 GW.

There is therefore already a surplus of 32 GW for 2023 and 44 GW for 2022. We must also add the imports to come in November and December (i.e. probably 12 GW, i.e. twice October). This gives a stock of 88 GW in Europe. Enough to cover the 2024 installations, without any imports next year.

This feeding of the market, whatever happens and whatever the surplus, shows a desire to do harm on the part of the Chinese. It's no longer a case of "we didn't know". There are no longer the embarrassed explanations of a few so-called specialists to exonerate the Chinese. It's a clear determination to get rid of their surplus and outdated panels on the European market and destroy what was left of the European industry.

European photovoltaic companies are disappearing. Meanwhile, the European Commission's top executives are travelling to China to analyse the aid given to the Chinese car industry with President Xi! As if he were going to give them arguments to justify their investigation!

Clearly there is something wrong with this Commission. And yet it is in charge of us!
