In September, Central Europe was particularly exposed to radiation

Germany and Central Europe experienced the highest level of radiation in September for at least 17 years,

due to an 'Omega Block' type weather phenomenon, which maintained high pressure over Central Europe. This created consistently clear skies, but pushed clouds and storms southwards, notes Solcast. These levels reached 130 to 140% of September's historical averages.

This Omega system maintained consistently clear skies over central Europe, and pushed clouds and storms southwards. This pattern is similar to other El Nino episodes at the end of the summer in the region. Germany and Poland, for example, received roughly the same amount of solar radiation over the month as Spain and Portugal. This pattern is particularly unusual, especially given the shorter days further north. On the other hand, the Iberian Peninsula and Greece experienced a drop in levels, with Lisbon and Athens only receiving around 80% of their typical September solar radiation.

Editor's note It is believed that the climate is approximately always the same. This data shows that irradiation, and therefore solar energy production, varies greatly from year to year.
