Tenth week of recovery in silicon prices

The price of silicon continued to rise for the tenth consecutive week. It gained 3.3% to RMB 82.5 ($11.51)/kg. This increase occurred

as Chinese silicon players gathered in Baotou, Inner Mongolia for a conference.

The participants are due to examine the likely trend in the price of silicon and agree on its future development. This week's rally is much weaker than in previous weeks. This could herald a stabilisation or even a decline.

On the other hand, wafer production is outstripping silicon production to justify a further rise. Silicon stocks are falling, which will not encourage a fall in the price of the material.

Participants had differing views on how the market should be supplied. For some, new production capacity came on stream this month, increasing the country's overall rate. For others, the new production capacity had already been commissioned and do not expect any impact on the price of silicon in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Editor's note: A meeting to define the future price of silicon! It couldn't be clearer that the famous competition being mooted by some Chinese producers is just a decoy to appease the good consciences of the West.
