The European Union is adopting new regulations on batteries to make them more sustainable and climate-neutral.

After installing 741 MW/1,098 MWh of new storage capacity in Italy in the first quarter, distributed storage capacity at the end of March reached 2.3 GW/3.9 GWh, with 311,000 distributed storage systems installed.

The Dutch company Eneco is to build a 50 MW/200 MWh energy storage facility in Wallonia (Belgium) using Tesla Megapacks batteries. The system will be used to help balance Elia's Belgian electricity grid as more renewables come online. The project will be operational by the end of 2024.

China's Renac Power is presenting an energy storage system comprising an inverter for commercial and industrial (C&I) applications. The battery is lithium-iron-phosphate and is said to have 6,000 cycles.
