Bernreuter Research publishes its analysis of the silicon market.

The world's four largest silicon producers in 2022 were Chinese. No. 1, Tongwei, is followed by

GCL Technology, Daqo, Xinte and Wacker Chemie. Tongwei has a production capacity of 345,000 tonnes according to Bernreuter, and is only announcing 260,000 tonnes produced, although it produced 160,000 tonnes in the second half of the year. So the four main manufacturers are now located in China; they produced more than 100,000 tonnes each in 2022. "

The sixth, Asia Silicon, has a production capacity of 92,000 tonnes, followed by East Hope, which shut down part of its production at one of its facilities in Xinjiang province in June after a fire.

China produced 89% of the world's solar-grade silicon in 2022. The six largest Chinese manufacturers alone have an additional capacity of about 1.5 million tonnes to bring on stream in 2023 and 2024. In addition, more than a dozen new entrants are building or accelerating new silicon plants in China. The result is overcapacity, and therefore lower prices
