Comparison between the M10 cell and the panel price

As of 2 May, the price of panels using M10 cells was unchanged, sitting at a 13-week low of $0.224/watt. The gap with the M10 cell is narrowing from the January high, says Dow Jones subsidiary Opis

Weaker than expected foreign demand

has helped keep the Chinese panel price down for several weeks, but price movements have again been mixed in the rest of the PV chain with the Global Polysilicon Marker-GPM (or global silicon price). The OPIS assessment for silicon produced outside China, falls 3.01% week-on-week to $35.831/kg.

The price spread between the FOB China panel and the FOB China M10 cell, however, remained at a narrow $0.084/W on 2 May, down more than 30% from its peak of $0.123/W on 12 January (see chart). The spread has remained below $0.10/W since 31 January, suggesting slippery margins for non-integrated panel producers. The ordering of premium N-type panels over P-type will increase margins, but the availability of the former is largely limited to Tier 1 manufacturers at present.
