The US Congress votes to repeal the suspension of customs duties - but to no avail!

The US House of Representatives and then the Senate have voted to repeal the two-year suspension of tariffs on solar cells and panels from four South-East Asian countries,

Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. It is likely that President Biden will oppose the legislation and that Congress will not have the two-thirds vote to override it.

American manufacturers can still satisfy Congress' requirements by using wafers produced in South-East Asia to manufacture their cells and then the panels.

Panel manufacturers without wafer production capacity in Southeast Asia, and therefore using non-Xinjiang wafers, must meet the requirements of the BOM. Namely, their panels must include at least four types of officially listed nomenclature, such as silver paste, aluminium frames, glass, backsheet,

This US ban will have little effect on Tier 1 integrated manufacturers, unless they use products from Xinjiang.

Editor's note There is always talk of this similar vote in both houses of Congress, but no mention is ever made of the reasons for this desire to rescind the suspension. Why is this?
