In Germany, in the 1st quarter, reduction in energy demand and in the share of solar energy

Renewables contributed 47.1% of Germany's gross electricity production in the first quarter of this year, two percentage points more than in the same period last year (45.1%).

Gross electricity production and consumption

have decreased significantly year-on-year. Generation fell by 8% from 161 TWh in the first quarter of 2022 to 147.5 TWh in the first quarter of this year. Over the same period, consumption fell by 6% from 140 to 131 TWh. The production of solar power fell by 20% from 9.7 to 7.8 TWh. The relative share of solar decreased from 6.0% of gross electricity generation in Q1 2022 to 5.3% in Q1 2023 (or from 6.5% to 5.6% of gross inland consumption), while the relative share of solar in the total electricity consumption decreased from 2.5% to 2.5%.consumption), while installed solar capacity in Q1 2023 was 12% higher (at 67.5 gigawatts) than at the start of Q1 2022 (60 GW).
