Storage in the US in the 3rd quarter
New storage records were set, with 4.7 GW commissioned, mainly in California and Texas. Residential customers installed 0.4 GWh.
Forecasts for 2022 to 2026 have doubled (+109%) compared with the previous quarter. The US market is forecasting 65 GW over this period. Installations by utilities are expected to account for 84% of this capacity.
Installed capacity is expected to more than double next year, driven by announcements of major new projects and increased residential and non-residential volumes in California due to the introduction of a community solar program and NEM 3.0. Project delays due to supply chain constraints continue to hamper development in the short term, but queues for the 2022-28 interconnection have increased by 120% in one quarter.
