Simplifying renewable energy installations in Portugal

To simplify and develop renewable energy installations in Portugal, compulsory environmental assessments

for solar projects of less than 100 hectares will no longer be required from1 March 2023. Similarly, on a case-by-case basis, the assessment will be abolished for projects occupying less than 15 hectares, which are at least 2 km away from solar power plants of more than 1 MW and whose connection to the grid must be via a 60 kV line (or less) and with an extension of less than 10 km.

The aim is for Portugal to generate 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2026.
