Significant reduction of evaporation on agrivoltaic plots

Chinese researchers have found a significant reduction in evaporation on agrivoltaic plots. They examined the relationship between cumulative surface evaporation and evaporation time. They placed

The first experiment was carried out on a conventional agri-voltaic farm with crystalline silicon solar panels, and the second experiment was carried out on a clay soil in Fuyang (Anhui) with a warm, temperate, semi-humid monsoon climate.

The first experiment was carried out on a conventional agrivoltaic field with crystalline silicon solar panels. The scientists called it the "Even-lighting Agrivoltaic System" (EAS).

The second experiment was conducted with curved glass panels covered with inexpensive multilayer interference films to allow for sunlight separation. They called it a "concentrated light agrivoltaic system" (CAS).

In both cases, the soil and water surfaces under the systems are exposed indirectly to sunlight. The soil surface evaporation during the experimental period in bare soil under CAS andEAS was 80.53 mm, 63.38 mm and 54.14 mm; thus CAS and EAS significantly reduced water evaporation by 21% and 33%.

The cumulative evaporation from the container surface during the experimental period in bare soil under CAS and EAS was 278.76 mm.The cumulative evaporation of the container surface during the experiment period in bare soil under CAS and EAS was 278.76 mm, 238.52 mm and 225.85 mm; thus, CAS and EAS significantly reduced water evaporation from the container by 14% and 19%.
