Low cost increases despite supply difficulties

Photovoltaic and solar with storage costs have increased year-on-year

in the US, according to NREL. Large-scale PV plants (over 100 MW-dc, using 20.3% efficiency mono-facial panels) were 6% more expensive in the first quarter of 2022 than in the equivalent period last year, rising to $0.99/W-dc, while large-scale solar plus storage increased 11% year-on-year to $195 million.Large solar plus storage systems increased by 11% year-on-year to $195 million. Energy storage costs alone increased by 13%.

Residential PV prices increased by 2% and commercial ground-mounted and rooftop systems by 8% compared to Q1 2021.

NREL acknowledged that due to the volatility of market events in Q1 2022, the forecasts and conclusions of the benchmarking study do not reflect all market participants.

Editor's note: There was the increase in the price of panels, the increase in the price of sea freight, difficulties in accessing a port and the more or less organised shortage among producers, which made certain products unavailable. Given this variety of difficulties, it is surprising that the price increases were so moderate.
