IBC analysis

Dutch researchers in Delft have studied how the fine-tuning of the reverse characteristics of interdigitated back-contact solar cells (IBCs) based on tunnel oxide passivated contact technology (TOPCon)

could help improve the performance of PV panels. They wanted to examine the shading tolerance and operating temperature of shaded solar cells.

"Our work had two objectives: firstly, to show how the breakdown voltage (BDV) of TOPCon IBC solar cells can be lowered, and secondly, to demonstrate how panels using low breakdown voltage cells are more shade tolerant."
