Algae could improve the efficiency of solar panels by 4

A Swedish team has inaugurated a pilot plant for the mass production of an algae-based material that has the potential to

increase the efficiency of silicon solar panels by 4%, and that of thin-film panels by 36%. The algae are added to the encapsulant of silicon-based panels or to the anti-reflective coating on the glass of thin-film panels. The team estimates that the resulting panels would be 3.9% cheaper.
