New photovoltaic panel recycling centre

The eco-organisation Soren (formerly PV Cycle France) and the social economy company Envie 2E Aquitaine have inaugurated a photovoltaic panel recycling centre at Saint-Loubès in Gironde.

The originality of this plant

is the use of a hot blade delamination process. This scrapes the glass and removes the polymer layer containing the cells. The glass is not crushed as in other recycling plants.

This process does not increase the percentage of products recovered (still 95%), but it does increase the quality of the materials extracted. They are much purer than in the traditional method. It's a way of producing raw materials, not just recycling waste.

Editor's note The quantity of end-of-life panels is insufficient to make recycling facilities profitable. So setting up new plants may be preparing for the future, but it is above all a source of losses for years to come.
