Tongwei to expand into panel manufacturing
On 22 September, China's Tongwei announced plans to invest in a 25 GW panel manufacturing plant in Yancheng. This represents
an investment of RMB 4 billion ($560 million). The project will be built over the next 24 months, once the necessary land has been acquired and the required procedures for the area have been obtained.
Tongwei is extending its production cycle downstream. Until now, it has been a silicon and wafer manufacturer.
Taking advantage of high silicon prices, Tongwei achieved sales of 60 billion RMB ($8.4 billion) in the first half of 2022, surpassing LONGi Green Energy for the first time.
