Q Energy France presents a pilot PV hydroponic system

Q Energy France presents a pilot PV hydroponic system. It covers an area of 250 m² and is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system which is collected in a basin. Irrigation is carried out continuously thanks to its closed circuit water pump system in order to preserve water resources.

Hydroponic farms practice soil-less cultivation

and use mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent, usually in greenhouses or enclosed spaces. It is a soilless growing system in which plants grow with their roots in water enriched with natural and bio-based nutrients with the use of biological components.

The hydroponic farm presented here has an area of about 250 m². It is connected to a PV system with an installed power of 9.3 kW equipped with a hydraulic system with two rainwater collection gutters.

"This system can be installed anywhere, preferably on land with very low agronomic value. It has no negative impact on the environment and makes it possible to grow a 100% natural, diversified and dense crop in a space five to fifteen times smaller.

The experiment is now to be conducted on a larger area.

Editor's note Soil-less cultivation in buildings or greenhouses is already practised, with several floors of planting trays. This experiment differs in that rainwater is used in a closed circuit and the crops are grown in the open air.
