Norwegian silicon producer to increase production fivefold

Norwegian Crystals, a Norwegian manufacturer of silicon ingots, plans to increase its production fivefold after securing funding from EIT InnoEnergy and a wafer purchase agreement from Meyer Burger.

The carbon footprint of Norwegian Crystals' ingots is only a third of that of ingots manufactured in Asia, due to the use of renewable energy sources for production and low emissions from logistics.

Editor's note It is curious to note that an order and financing have enabled the Norwegian manufacturer to get off the ground. Admittedly, the factory has not yet been built and the cost of manufacture is not yet assured, but there are two satisfied companies and the beginnings of industrial integration.
