Rooftop planning permission to be abolished soon in Ireland
Ireland is preparing measures to simplify solar installations on residential roofs as well as on the roofs of non-domestic buildings, such as community and educational buildings,
places of worship, health buildings, libraries and farms. There would no longer be a need to obtain planning permission regardless of location.
Wall-mounted and freestanding solar panel installations are also exempt from the requirement to obtain planning permission, subject to a surface area limit of 25 square metres.
The measure will support Ireland's aim to generate up to 380 MW of solar micro-generation (around 1 million panels) as part of the country's overall target of 2.5 GW of solar by 2030.

Editor's note: To our knowledge, this is the first European country to completely eliminate building permits for rooftops.
