The ABR consortium wants to develop a second life for car batteries
The ABR consortium (comprising Entech, Stellantis, Talendi and the University of Southern Brittany) aims to develop a second life for automotive batteries. After a service life of around 12 years in a vehicle,
lithium-ion batteries still retain up to 75% of their storage capacity for stationary use.
The batteries available in 2030, which could have a second life, could have a capacity of 140 GWh. At the same time, the market for stationary storage to meet grid needs will also be growing steadily. By 2030, it should reach 160 GWh/year, including 35 GWh/year in Europe.

Editor's note If lithium-ion batteries last for twelve years, this means that the volume of batteries available will not take off until around 2035, as there are not many batteries currently in use. How will the consortium manage to last ten years?
