Elimination of silicon sellers by EBRD, but difficulty in identifying
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has blacklisted Chinese PV manufacturers
which are suspected of forced labour in silicon production. It has excluded them from its list of funded companies.
PI Berlin says that upstream traceability to include wafers, silicon and metallurgical silicon (MSG) has not been sufficiently implemented. Current traceability only covers cells and panels. PI Berlin acknowledges that audits are mainly focused on silicon manufacturing in certain regions of China.
